Prof Tu was born in 1958 in Guizhou. He is a Yangzi Award Special Professor in Lanzhou University. He graduated in Department of Chemistry in Lanzhou University in 1982 and obtained his MSc and PhD in Lanzhou University respectively in 1985 and 1989. He spent two years as Postdoc in Queensland University in Australia from 1993 to 1995 and as visiting professor in Germany Biler Felder University from 2004-2005. Currently, he is the Director of the Key National Laboratory in Functional Organic Chemistry, Director of Institute of Organic Chemistry of Lanzhou University, Executive Member of Chinese Society of Chemistry, and Deputy Chairman of Gansu Society of Chemistry. Prof Tu has published more than 100 research papers and filed 3 patents. He has received the Excellent Young Chemist Medal form CSC in 1992, the Second Prize of National Education Ministry Sci & Tech Development Award in 1993, National Outstanding Young Researcher Founding, NNSF funding for Innovation Team of Organic Chemistry as academic leader, Gansu First Prize in Natural Science Advancement. Prof Tu’s main interests cover synthetic organic chemistry and natural products. He has been working on anti-HIV bioactive molecules and other synthetic molecules with specific bioactivities.
